The Olde (Main) Bellevue Hotel at Darjeeling
was established on or around 1872, and represents the best of
colonial Raj architecture.
Built at the same time and in the same traditions as other Raj-style buildings such as the Darjeeling Planters club and other tea plantation bungalows, it is one of the longest established heritage hotels in Darjeeling district. Despite being a heritage property it is reasonably priced and benefits from having been a family run establishment all through its history. It was owned by an English lady until 1942 when it was bought by the present owners family who have held it now for three generations. The hotel comprises the heritage wing as well as a modern new wing with Swiss chalet style architecture with a pronounced sloping roof, sun deck and viewing gallery with plenty of natural light and excellent views of the Kanchenjunga and Sandakphu ranges.
The hotel is highly ranked on Tripadvisor and has been consistently referred to and recommended by various guides such as the Le Guide du Routard (the highly regarded French travel guide), Rough Guide (India), Footprint India Handbook, Lets Go India, Discovery Channel Insight Guide and of-course Lonely Planet. The hotel has as its guests, a number of group tours (including motor-cycle and bicycle tours as well as dragoman-style coach tours) for their stay in Darjeeling and has been awarded by return visits every year. The hotel has also hosted meditation, and other (particularly Buddhist) teaching camps.

What an experience!!!This was my first time at Darjeeling and it couldn't have been any better. Great room...beautiful view....good food...and above all sweet people all around(Special mention PRITAM). Couldn't see Siddharta this time as he was out on a work trip. Never mind...next time:) But got 10 times more then what was expected. HAIL SIDDHARTA!!!

The rooms were superb, the location was beautiful and the entire staff of the hotel was more than hospitable. Not only that, I got tremendous help in research from the people at the hotel including Siddharta's father. I only wish I could meet Siddharta in person as he was away on a work trip when I arrived. Overall, this was a superb experience and I could not have asked for more.
10 on 10!

Having travelled far and wide in the last 13 years of my professional career both in India and abroad, I have never come across a better level of hospitality and comfort, as i did enjoy in your hotel ( Heritage Wing, No, 7) during my stay from 10th march,2009 to 13th march,2009.
The ambience and serene panorama around your hotel has definitely impressed my soul to such an extent that i would vouch for your hotel to one and all.
Mr.Preetam has simply been an awesome creature who himself proves to be an asset for your establishment.
Both my wife and me are simply overwhelmed by your hotel and its resources.
Thanks a lot !

Siddhartha is a wonderful, gracious host. He welcomes you into his fine hotel with open arms. If anything I felt like I didn't want to leave at the end; I even extended my stay by a few nights.
Although he is a busy man, he always makes time for his friends and told me so much about Darjeeling, which gave it even more character than it already had for me. We had some great chats. I only hope I can return soon, and even though I might not get the chance to for some time, the memories of this great place and my time here at Siddhartha's will never be too far from my mind.
Thanks again buddy.

Unfortunately Siddhartha was away during our short stay, but we met his father, a fine Tibetan aristocrat whose family crossed into India in the 1930s with a lot of yaks carrying a fortune.
My mother and I had loved in the Old Bellvue Annexe and were known to Mr. Gyaltsen, who, along with his son, was also in my old school! Thus it was like revisiting family!
Great hospitality. Siddhartha shares with me not only my school, North Point, but also his experience in "Oxbridge" and interest in flying.
All good wishes to you and family, Siddhartha!

My first ever night in India was spent at the Old Bellevue Hotel ! I'd heard so much about it from Gordon, and it really could not have been more perfect©..Next autumn we'll definitely be back in your mountains.
In the interim, if you're coming over to Blighty, we'd be delighted to see you.
Please do stay in touch,

I just stayed at the Olde Bellevue for 3 nights. The location is prime right on the town's main square. It was winter season so things were a bit quiet and I didn't get to meet Siddartha, but his staff were kind and friendly. And if it's not cloudy season there should be a great views of the Himalayas from the rooms.

..suffice it to say that from the moment when we stepped into the Olde Bellevue Hotel we had a fascinating and hugely enjoyable programme which we could never have put together ourselves. Thank you a hundred times over. There are so many good things to remember - Mass on Christmas evening, our visit to the Planters Club, our visit to the old building of the Bellevue with the historic photo of MacMahon flanked by Chinese and Tibetan delegations, our call on the delightful and impressive head of the Kripasaran Buddhist Mission, our call on the equally impressive Hospital, our introduction to the wonderfully warm and encouraging Llama in Mirik, all our talk together with you and of course the endless help and care which we received from all the Bellevue staff, including the delivery, when night and the cold struck home, of glorious hot water bottles to see us through to the morning.

the experience was good and Siddartha was very helpful while I was there, although he is quite busy and i did not see much of him. the hotel staff are very friendly and helpful, especially Pritam who is lovely and helped me with my terrible Hindi, even telling me that i have "perfect" pronunciation, bless him! hello Pritam! thanks for everything guys, hope it's not too cold up there!
Bernice Shepherd, Launceston, Australia
Siddartha is very interesting and always willing to have a good discussion. That's just too bad we couldn't hang out more together, because of his work. It will be for next time, I hope

In spite if his tight schedule Siddhartha finds room to accommodate guests. That is great! Coming from an old Darjeeling family he is an endless source of information regarding India, and Darjeeling in particular. Although short, I was lucky to have a few talks with him and his lovely family. The accommodation he offers is first class and everyone is extremely helpful. Dear Siddhartha. For your many plans and projects all the best.

I had the chance to spend an evening with Siddharta, a pleasant evening walk in the quiet surroundings of the city, who told me a lot a interesting things about Darjeeling, as he and his family live here since many years.
The hostel is very nice, old, beautiful, and the staff very sympatheic.
